A SHORT HISTORY OF TODICASTLE
TodiCastle is a historic castle which origins date back to 1100 AD and it is located 10 miles south of the medieval town of Todi, in Umbria.
In the past centuries, TodiCastle was born as a sighting tower, then it was transformed into a fortress and in the end it became a peaceful and comfortable accommodation for international guests.
During the Roman times and the medieval era Umbria, such as the rest of Italy, was a land of contention and turbulence and TodiCastle is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved historic castles of the region.
First of all, TodiCastle was a watch tower then, due to its strategic position on a hilltop, the historic castle became a fortress during the Middle Ages.
Bloody battles and mysterious family happenings made arise some legends about ghost that still wonder into the manor walls.
TodiCastle passed under the Comune of Todi property, then it became a dominion of the Church for many years. After that, the plague had decimated the local population and the historic castle was abandoned and used by wanderers. Then it became a monastery and, after a century, the Landi family took the possession of it.
At the beginning of the 20th century the manor house also known as Capecchio was acquired by the Paparini family, the most important landowners in the area of TodiCastle and at last, in 1973, the Santoro family bought the historic castle.
At the moment, TodiCastle is fully restored and is part of an estate in which there are also three luxury villas with their own pools, a grill restaurant and an organic farm. The castle and the villas are let out for some days or weeks to families and group of friends and are the perfect location to spend a holiday in Umbria or to celebrate an unforgettable wedding.
