Umbria is an enchanting region of central Italy, well-known in the whole world because of its landscapes and the beautiful colors of its fields, good wine and food, great monuments and important events during the year.
Umbria capital is Perugia, a medieval city famous all over the world for important monuments such as Piazza Grande with its Fontana Maggiore, considered the most beautiful fountain of the Middle Age.
In addition to Perugia, Umbria has a lot of wonderful cities: Assisi, well-known because of St Francis life and Cathedral, in which he was buried; Gubbio, a town rich in artistic and historical monuments; Spoleto, well-known in the whole world for its “Festival dei due mondi”, a musical event that every year draws thousands of tourists; Todi, an enchanting town in the middle of Umbria; Norcia, famous for its gastronomic products, above all for its cold cuts; Orvieto, an Etruscan town built on a tuff massif, and many others.
The wonderful fields surrounding Umbrian countryside are typical of this Italian region. Its colors, a mixture of reddish, green and okra dyes, create a unique atmosphere. Umbria is mostly hilly or mountainous and features a lot of natural areas as Colfiorito, Monte Cucco, Monte Subasio, the Tiber River Park, the Lake Trasimeno, the Nera River Park, the parks of Sette Frati and Villalba, the Lake Alviano and La Valle, protected areas perfect for bird-watching and trekking lovers.
Umbria is also well-known for its excellent gastronomic products: Italian typical wine and food, but also extra virgin olive oil, eggs, cheese, truffles, vegetables and fruits. Besides, Umbria is a region in which the breeding of cattles, sheeps, chianina cows, piglets, rabbits and chickens constitutes a very important activity.
In Umbria you will find a wide range of events during the whole year: enogastronomic events, as “Frantoi Aperti” (Open Oil Mills) festival, olive harvest, tasting of Italian wines, Eurochocolate and grape harvest; musical events as Umbria Jazz Winter Festival, Festival dei Due Mondi and Umbria Jazz, artistic and handicraft events as Todi Arte Festiva and Celebration of Made in Italy; traditional and popular events as Christmas in Umbria, New Year's Eve and Umbria Carnival.
