MUSEUMS IN THE AREA OF TODICASTLE

In Amelia (15 Km from the Estate) you will find an archaeological museum and an art museum, both with works of very fine quality.

In Spoleto (90 Km from the Estate) you will find a picture Gallery attached to an important 12th century medieval church, Sant'Eufemia's. The Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea shows works by Italy's top contemporary masters, Pomodoro, Burri, Guttuso, Accardi. The Archeological Museum is housed in the convent of Sant'Agata. The Pinacoteca can be located through the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall). There is a picture gallery attached to Santa Maria della Manna d'Oro.

Deruta (40 Km from the Estate) is known for its majolica. There is a museum displaying early works in majolica, Museo Regionale della Ceramica.

Perugia (60 Km from the Estate an hour and a quarter drive) has a very large and very fine museum, the Galleria Nazionale. Here you will find wonderful Perugino pictures as well as a Madonna by Duccio and a Piero della Francesca altar piece. Be sure not to miss the Collegio del Cambio next to the Galleria Nazionale.

Assisi is an hour and fifteen minutes drive from the Estate. Here you will find the famous Basilica of San Francesco with its famous frescoes of the life of Saint Francis. Many of these frescoes are by Giotto and Cimabue.

Gubbio (an hour and 3 quarters drive). The Museo Civico is interesting for its building and the archaeological finds from the area, seals and coins, tomb stones and sarcophagi. The lower part of the building houses the Museo Civico. When you visit the Pinacoteca be sure to go out the door that leads to the main loggia with its view over Gubbio.

Spello (75.Km from the Estate). The Pinacoteca Comunale has an Annonciation attributed to Gozzoli and works by Pierantonio Mezzastris of Foligno.

Montefalco (60 Km from the Estate). Here the Pinacoteca is attached to the 14th century church of San Francesco. There are frescoes by Gozzoli and Perugino. Often there are special exhibitions as well.

Trevi (90 Km from the Estate).

Museo della civiltà dell'Ulivo and the Museo Civico. Paintings by local artists. Trevi is famous for its olive oil. Some specimens are believed to be over 1000 years old.
Todi (17 Km from the Estate) is our nearest hill town, 20 minutes by car.
The Museo Civico Pinacoteca is located on the 4th floor of the Palazzo del Popolo in the main square.  You will find much of local interest here.

Orvieto (30 Km from the Estate), 45 minutes drive. The Museo Archeologico Nazionale houses Etruscan bronzes. Also in Orvieto is the Museo delle Ceramiche. The city was an important center for the production of ceramics in the middle ages.

Terni (40 Km from the Estate). The Pinacoteca Comunale has many 14th and 15th century works (Gozzoli as well  as local artists) and small works by Chagall, Picasso, Miro', Kandinski, Léger.

Città di Castello (100 Km from the Estate) Museo del Duomo, liturgical silver as well as small work by Pinturicchio.

The Collezione Burri is in a renovated tobacco drying shed which was used by Burri as a studio and now houses the work of this precursor of Abstract Expression and Junk Art.
