ENGLISH LANGUAGE NEWSPAPERS

The International Herald Tribune and other English language newspapers are sold at the coffee shop in Collelungo “Bar Le Stelle”. 

FOOD SHOPPING FOR BASICS

Bakery at Izzalini, on the road to Todi on your right hand side – try their apple pie and “Crostata” 075 8853253. Family run, great products, the best. Be careful, no signs outside the shop, but you will see the windows. Grocery store at Collelungo (open daily except Tuesday and Sunday afternoon). Gianfranco, the owner, is a friendly guy, and he likes to sing (you will notice that). Coffee shop at Collelungo “Le Stelle” (closed on Tuesday) 

SPECIAL FOR CHEESE AND RICOTTA

Visit the Giuliani Family, at Pergoleto (walking distance from here), and ask about their fabolous ricotta and cheese. Walk on the road towards Collelungo, take the first dirt road (without gate) on your right . Ask for “Pergoleto” .

SUPERMARKETS

The COOP is at Porta Romana, just outside Todi's etruscan walls. Pass Collelungo, through Izzalini, through Fiore. Drive downhill towards Todi. Drive uphill, around the city walls to Porta Romana, turn right at the traffic light, to the COOP. A pre – arrival grochery purchase service is available. Cheese, prosciutto, truffles, honey and wine, coming from bought for you from nearby organic farms. A refrigerator is provided for your use in the kitchen. Please ask staff. 

SPECIAL FOR ICE CREAM FRIENDS

In Todi the Ciucci Bar in front of the opera theater and the Pianegiani Bar on Corso Cavour, homemade, fruit flavors. In Montecastello di Vibio (next exit after Todi north on the E-45), right in the piazza, great ice cream with a view of Todi. 

BAKERY FARE

Todi has a number of pastry shops, from Ciucci to Biganti, just follow your nose. Fresh bread at the bakery behind the Duomo. Typical Todi goodies: serpent cake made of marzipan, with candied eyes, sprinkled with powdered sugar; pizza al formaggio, a cheese flavored bread often shaped like a soufflé' or loaf. In Todi, pizza means loaf or cake. Crostata is an open face pie, topped with fruit or jam.

 
TYPICAL DISHES

Tagliatelle alla boscaiola (ribbon noodles with wild asparagus), zuppa di farro (grain soup known as the Roman legions' marching soup), faraona alla saporitella (guinea fowl in spicy sauce), trota salmonata alla griglia (grilled lake trout), grilled steaks, chops, sausages cooked in an open fireplace; a great variety of vegetables, grilled, baked or saltati in padella (sautéed in olive oil and herbs); tartufi (truffles) and grilled funghi porcini (fragrant large mushrooms). A variety of crostini, with olive paste, liver pate', fresh tomatoes and basil, cheeses. 

IN THE TODI AREA

Artistic ceramics, both traditional and modern, at Deruta, north of E-45, heading towards Perugia. Fine table and bed linens at Raphael in Spoleto. Fine wines throughout Umbria , from robust Montefalco reds and Torgiano reds to light whites. High fashion clothing in Perugia , as well as chocolates from Perugina, and many other things you will discover.

SPA

Todi Castle Estate has a special agreement with “ Marc Messeguè Health Center ” in Melezzole. This is the best SPA in Italy, and one of the best in Europe . Look for a sleek white square building with a sign “CAFE”. Outlet in the same parking facility.
